Aurora, a plasma phenomenon, occurs mainly at high latitudes on planets with magnetic fields, and on Earth the auroral zone is the area 10° to 20° from the geomagnetic poles in longitude and about 3° to 6° wide in latitude. Auroras also occur at lower latitudes when magnetic storms occur. (Wikipedia)
